Rattan Furniture. What is it and how is it made?

11th June 2017

Rattan furniture, is mostly made of singular pieces of rattan. Rattan is formed from a unique palm plant found in the south-east Asia. It is characterised by its slim stems and vine like structure. The plant grows vertically, rather than in a fan pattern like most hardwoods. It is considered to be one of the strongest wood in the world. To create the garden furniture, the wood is steamed and bent into a desired shape. The item is then dried to retain its shape.

Varieties Of Rattan Furniture

As well as natural, you can also buy synthetic these days. Synthetic is produced as natural does not always wear well in the weather of Britain and northern USA. Natural rattan can also be affected by mould if is in contact with water to often. Synthetic is usually tougher to the elements, meaning it is much better for outdoor use.

Rattan Garden Furniture Sets

For people who are considering buying more than one piece of furniture, we recommend buying a set. Sets usually end up much cheaper per piece than if you were to buy each piece separate. As it is available in such an array of types of furniture, you will also find a variety of sets. You will most likely still find chaise lounges, cuddle chairs, swings, tables, sofas armchairs and much more. Buying a set also guarantees that your furniture will match perfectly. This can save you a large amount of time and money trying to mix and match if you do end up purchasing more later on.
