5 Tips To Get Your Home Christmas Ready

19th December 2019

The festive season can be quite a stressful time, and with so much to do but so little time, sometimes it can feel like an impossible task to get your winter wonderland ready and perfect. Now, if you’re hosting Christmas, the pressure is on and this is a holiday that you need to be prepared for, you need to make the time. If you’re already organised and you’ve scheduled a time to go Christmas shopping, good for you. If you haven’t, you might want to start a Christmas list with ideas for your friends, family and loved ones because it’s what they deserve.

Because we understand how daunting festivities can be, we’ve compiled a brief to do list to get your home Christmas ready without breaking the bank, and without causing too much stress. It’s time to get the decorations out of the storage cupboards, and bring some Christmas joy to your household.

1.Declutter

Before you can begin your decorating throughout the house, you need to clear out the things you won’t be needing or using over the festive period. This includes ornaments, cushions, letters and anything that no longer serves a purpose. This small task actually has the biggest impact, because it helps you tackle the decorating and planning with a fresh start, and a fresh mindset. Plus, you don’t have to waste time getting rid of things whilst you try and decorate. When it comes to Christmas decorating, we need the space – your 6ft Christmas tree covered in artificial snow needs the space.

2.Prepare / Start Decorations

Although decorating the house doesn’t seem a stressful task, many of us could do without having to climb up a pair of ladders to hang lights that beam from the outside window. However, there is something special when you’re able to capture the festive season with lights, trees, and other traditions that we create ourselves over the years. So, decorate the tree, place magical snow globes throughout the living room for the children to play with and hang the stockings off the fireplace. Once you’ve tackled this festive tradition, you can move on to much bigger tasks and obstacles. One main task, done! What’s next?

Top tip – Plan your Christmas interior around what you already have. It saves you time and reduces stress levels!

3.The Dreaded Food List

Stocking the house with food ready for Christmas can be quite costly and it means you need to find the room to store everything in your freezer or cupboards. If you’re being the host and you’re cooking for the entire family, preparing a list of food ingredients and specific requirements makes the process much easier. Preparation is always key, so get your list ready and put in a safe place so it’s all ready to go. Now, if you’ve got a big family, you need to assess the dining situation and if you have a big enough table and dining chairs so everyone can sit and eat comfortably. Preparation is always key!

4.The Present Shop

This is potentially the most stressful task out of them all. If you’re one of those that pays close attention to what your friends and loved ones like or need, then you’re pretty much safe. But there is at least one person that is extremely difficult to buy for, and you’re not too sure what to get them. A goldfish? 10 pairs of socks? As we mentioned earlier, preparation makes things a lot easier, so get your notepad ready and write down all of the people you need to buy for. Don’t be too ambitious, if you’re thinking you can get 20 Christmas presents in one shopping trip, chances are you’re going to be let down. We suggest starting off with those who are easiest to buy for, so you know what you can gift them. If you’re looking for unique gifts, online shopping is a saviour for many people. You can avoid the big crowds and the horrific traffic jams we all have to endure each Christmas. You can also find some great discounts and sales, which make it more bearable on your bank account too!

5.Plan The Christmas Entertainment

At least every family has their own traditions and games they have to do each Christmas. Whether it’s playing a never ending game of Monopoly, or Scrabble where your family members get a bit too competitive. Or it could be that you watch the most iconic Christmas films such as The Grinch, Home Alone, Love Actually and more. It adds a special touch to the day, and spending it with loved ones around you makes it even better.
