Bar Stool Maintenance

11th May 2020

You will find that bar stools are now a familiar sight in most homes. There is an extensive array out there, for instance, faux leather, upholstered and even acrylic seats. As well we have different bases such as chrome and wood. Lakeland Furniture has an incredible selection of bar stools and bar stool maintenance is easy to achieve by following a few simple steps.

Always start by doing a patch test on part of the seat you can't see e.g underside.

Maintaining and Caring For Different Styles of Bar Stool Seats

Faux Leather Seats

You can simply dust the seat or even vacuum to clean off dust or crumbs. Superficial marks can be wiped away with a damp cloth and tougher stains add a little soap. Make sure to wipe them dry with a cloth or paper towel. You can also add a small amount of baby oil to a dry sponge to wipe gently over the faux leather. Let the stool dry naturally. This trick is to keep the faux leather moist and prevents cracking.

Upholstered Seats

Cleaning your upholstered seats regularly will contribute to their longevity, but they may get stains that are more difficult to remove than say the faux leather seat. First identify the stain if you can. Dirt can easily come off by using warm water mixed with a little soap, use a soft cloth to rub gently.

For oil stains use a soft bristle brush and some detergent. Scrubbing gently in a circular motion you should see the stain begin to lighten. Some of this type of stain may have been left too long so you may find this does not work.

For ink apply hairspray, yes hair spray or even alcohol to the stain so it becomes saturated, let it sit for around 5 minutes. Then try to rub it out with a soft cloth.

In addition to the above, make sure to apply a stain guard to the fabric to keep stains at bay.

Acrylic Seats

Acrylic bar stools are incredibly easy to clean and look after. You don't need any special products to keep them looking nice and you don't have to worry about spills and messes! Use a damp cloth to wipe away any marks but if you find that the stain is tougher try using a baby wipe. Rub the stained area thoroughly with the baby wipe.

Maintaining and Caring for Different Style Base Units

Chrome bar stools need regular cleaning to keep them looking pristine and beautiful. To clean chrome, wipe it down with hot soapy water using a non-abrasive sponge or cloth. Use an old toothbrush to scrub any hard-to-reach nooks and crannies. When finished, dry the chrome by wiping it with a clean cloth, which prevent water marks.

You can keep your wooden bar stools looking brand new by buffing them with wood polish every so often. If they need a really good clean, take a cloth dipped in mild soapy water, wring and wipe the wood clean. dry with a cloth.
