Christmas 2018: The Decor Trends to Look Out For

15th November 2018

Christmas 2018 is just around the corner

Now it's halfway through November we think it's just about right to start prepping for Christmas. Why? Well, Black Friday is coming up so our present lists can start getting ticked off. The annual Xmas adverts are pretty much all out there on the TV. And most towns and cities are switching their lights on this week, along with opening the Christmas markets. It's only a matter of time before we start playing festive music in the office... So, of course, it's entirely justifiable that we're about to do a dedicated Christmas trends post. After all, if you want to get your home looking tip-top this year then you'll want to start planning your decor. We've made it a little easier for you, by rounding up the hottest trends for Christmas 2018 decorations. Cosy up with a hot chocolate and get comfy, this is gonna be a good one!

Here are the decor trends to look out for this year...

If you're wondering which theme to choose for this year's Xmas decor, look no further. Your next trip to the garden centre just got a lot easier! We've picked out some of our favourites from this year's anticipated decoration themes so you can choose yours.

1. Rainbow colours

This first trend may take you by surprise. And it surprises us too, as it is so out-there in comparison to the rest of the Xmas trends. It's pretty self-explanatory: mix as many colours as possible together to create a unique rainbow look. House Beautiful even dedicated a whole blog post to this 'biggest trend of Christmas 2018'. You could apply a gradient pattern to your tree, like Inspired by Charm's image above. Alternatively, you could randomly dot colours around your tree! The finished look is up to you but it's clear that rainbow is going to be pretty big this year.

2. Minimalistic scandi

Considering Scandinavian trends have pretty much taken over the interior design world the past few years, this one shouldn't be as much of a surprise. If you're anything like us (i.e. absolutely obsessed with minimalist Scandi vibes) then you'll love this trend. Take muted colours, clean lines and rustic decor to create a natural but entirely modern look. When in doubt, go for white, grey and subtle metallics. Nothing too shiny or fancy, just simple and carefully selected. If possible, get a real tree for maximum impact.

3. Mixed metallics

If you're an interior design enthusiast, then you'll know all about mixed metals taking over this year. Particularly in the kitchen, we've been allowing a whole array of shades and tones to shine and glisten. Don't worry about choosing between rose gold, copper, silver or brass - this trend means you can do it all. It works particularly well as a Christmas trend because, well, Christmas is all about sparkly things! Use a mixture of metallic baubles on your tree and extend the trend to your wreath and dining table decor, too.

4. Cool blues

For those who want to do something a little different, why not try the latest craze of blue Christmas decorations? We know this one won't be for everyone but when it's done properly, it looks amazing. We're getting serious Frozen vibes from Bluegraygal's amazing tree in the image above! If you apply a layer of frosty white or shimmery silver, you can easily take the edge off a vibrant blue to make it a little classier. And that's exactly what we love about this example, it's unique but still quintessentially festive.

What's your favourite trend for Christmas 2018?

These four are our picks of the bunch but it was pretty hard to narrow it down. We think the rainbow trend will definitely do the rounds on social media whilst it's more likely to see interior shops stocking the decor for Scandi and metallic themes. But what we want to hear from you is this: what's your chosen theme for your Christmas decor this year?
