What is the Difference Between Gas Lift and Fixed Height Bar Stools?

Frequently asked questions

We get lots of questions here at Lakeland Furniture, specifically when it comes to what the difference is between the variety of furniture we sell. For example, what is the difference between an occasional chair and an accent chair? What is the difference between cantilever and rectangle garden parasols? However, today, we're going to discuss gas lift and fixed height bar stools. By the end of this blog post, you'll be an expert on both! You might also have an idea of which one is for you, too...

What are gas lift bar stools?

So, let's jump straight into it, Simply, a gas lift bar stool is a bar stool that can be adjusted by height using a gas-powered mechanism. Now, that might sound quite complex but it really is self-explanatory. A gas lift bar stool can be moved up and down using a simple handle so anyone can use it. It's also really handy for homes with a lot of guests because everyone can sit at a comfortable height to suit them. These particular bar stools usually come made with a chrome or other metal-based frame due to the requirements of the mechanism. You will also be able to swivel on your gas lift stool due to the way its made. Seat materials vary from faux leather to acrylic and are often found in bright colours or interesting designs.

For more information on how a gas lift mechanism actually works, check out this blog post we wrote earlier. You can also browse our range of gas lift bar stools here.

What are fixed height bar stools?

You could say that fixed height bar stools are essentially the opposite of gas lift bar stools. Of course, this is in the sense that they are not adjustable. A fixed height bar stool doesn't make use of any mechanisms but its frame can be made of a variety of materials including wood - it's not just limited to metal. Our range of fixed height bar stools vary in style, colour and price. They cannot be adjusted, as we mentioned, but they offer a uniformity that you don't get with gas lift stools. If you like things to be neat and organised, you might prefer fixed height over other types of bar stool. Although you're not guaranteed a swivel seat when you buy fixed height, these are actually available sometimes and we have some on our website. Browse our range of fixed height stools here.
