Creating DIY Christmas bows for dining chairs

Now we're getting into the swing of things and preparing for Christmas, we thought we'd share some DIY stuff with you. In today's blog post, we're starting with Christmas bows for dining chairs! These cute and quirky accessories can really transform your dining room. Even better, this is something that all the family can join in with.

Here's what you'll need

  • A pack of organza, satin or taffeta chair sashes
  • Alternatively, some spare fabric of your choice
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun or fabric glue
  • Wire
  • Pine cones
  • Mini bells
  • Fake or real greenery
  • Glitter
  • Hairspray

Here's what you do

  1. Take your pack of chair sashes and assign one to each of your dining chairs. If you've gone for pieces of spare fabric, you'll need to take an extra step. Lay out your fabric and cut into thick strips that can resemble sashes. If you're not sure on the size to go for, try this Pin for the best cutting technique.
  2. We recommend choosing colours that go with your theme for Christmas this year, whether that's a traditional red, contemporary grey or shiny metallic.
  3. When your sashes are ready, you should begin tying them around your dining chairs. It's up to you how they are tied but we like to go for a typical bow shape. This is achieved by wrapping the sash around the back of the chair in a horizontal line, then allowing each end to dangle loosely at the back. Tie these loose ends in a knot to secure, then make a bow from the excess material. The size of your bows will depend on the length of your material and how many times you wrapped it around the chair.
  4. Now, it's time to make the decorations. Take a pine cone for each chair and glue on some greenery, mini bells and anything else that you might decide to use. Make one decoration for each chair and secure with a hot glue gun or fabric glue. It might be worth using wire to secure if you can't get hold of a glue gun. Alternatively, stick each individual decoration straight onto the sash bow, depending on what's easiest for you.
  5. Next, sprinkle the decorations with glitter and secure with a spritz of hairspray. Yep, it works!
  6. Now you can add the decoration to the sash, right in the middle of the bow. Use a hot glue gun again or some wire to secure.

Voila! You now have the most beautiful Christmas bows for dining chairs that you could ask for. Enjoy...
