How to Prepare for a Successful Garden Party

4th October 2017

How can you prepare for a fabulous garden party?

Summer may be coming to an end, but that doesn't mean garden parties should be a thing of the past. The unpredictable British weather sometimes throws us some wild cards in the form of sunny October weekends. Failing that, you can just count on being ultra-prepared for next year. Either way, garden parties are great fun!

Getting decorated

No garden party is complete without some fun and fancy decorations. The obvious includes bunting and tablecloths, but we think you should take it one step further. Try out some of these ideas:

  • Fairy lights hung in trees and bushes (battery-powered will be easiest for this)
  • Lanterns dotted around with tea lights inside
  • Hand-painted/drawn signs guiding guests to the garden
  • Picnic blankets and cushions on the grass for a more informal setting
  • Print out snaps of you and your friends, then clip to string draped around branches
  • Plant pots as DIY cutlery and straw holders
  • Flower paper garlands

Refresh your guests

Of course, you've got to consider food and drink. Putting on a barbecue is a sure fire way to please your guests, but get a little creative with it. As well as the usual beef burgers and sausages, try cooking up some Cypriot halloumi or salmon topped with chilli flakes and wrapped in foil.

If you're wanting to do something a little different, maybe get everybody involved. Lay out pizza bases and bowls of toppings, then cook them in the oven. Everyone can then create their own pizzas and no-one is left unsatisfied!

Fun idea: Try setting up a cocktail-making station. Lay out jugs of fruit juice, bottles of spirits and a bucket of ice to give your guests the ultimate party experience.

What about garden furniture?

Your guests need somewhere to relax and enjoy your party. If you don't already have a set of garden furniture, check out our extensive range of garden furniture.

A garden sofa is perfect if you have a bigger outdoor area and are looking for that extra bit of class. Your guests will be very impressed to find a luxurious sofa waiting for them!

A set of chairs and tables is also a must for a garden party. At the same time, it can also be used for many other occasions. Invest in a set of garden furniture and your downtime will be much more satisfying! There's nothing like enjoying your coffee on a Sunday morning sat in your garden.

For those sunnier days, you should consider a parasol or garden umbrella. This will not only keep you and your guests cool but shade your beverages from the sun too!

A marquee is a great feature for a higher-budget party. They are also suitable for gathering with an extended guest list. Check out the marquees available from Lakeland Furniture.
