Last Minute Checklist for Christmas at Home

19th December 2017

So, you've self-sacrificed to host the Christmas dinner this year? Or perhaps you're putting on 'low-key' drinks for your group of friends? Either way, there's plenty of things to get done during this exciting run-up to the big day. We thought we'd be kind to you and give you a checklist to make sure everything is sorted for entertaining your guests and family. After all, we're sure you've got plenty to be thinking about! Here's the Lakeland Furniture checklist for Christmas at home.

10 things to tick off this week

Okay, so we've put together a list of ten items which could make or break your festive holidays! Of course, we believe in making Christmas as stress-free as possible. Whilst that's not entirely guaranteed, this checklist may ease off some of the weight from your shoulders.

1. finalise any posting or ordering

Most online stores say to order by the 15th of December to ensure your Christmas delivery but this week is really your last chance to get deliveries by Christmas Eve. The Royal Mail's official last posting days are today (Tuesday 19th) for standard delivery and Wednesday-Thursday (20th/21st) for Tracked and Special Delivery. Get to that post office pronto if you've still got pressies to post!

2. Get your non-perishable goods

Now's the time to make sure you've got all the food and drinks ready for Christmas day or parties leading up to it. Stock up on alcoholic drinks, soft drinks and canned goods or frozen party food. This way, they'll all be ready for the main event without a last minute rush.

3. clean and organise the house

Dedicate an evening to getting the whole household together for a deep clean. This is the ultimate key to being organised if you want to feel relaxed and calm during Christmas parties and get-togethers. You should also start getting spare beds ready for any stop-overs.

4. stock up on batteries

Make sure you've got plenty of batteries in for the kid's toys to avoid that Christmas morning disappointment!

5. buy your fresh ingredients

Leave this one until a few days before Christmas. No one wants rotten vegetables with their turkey dinner! It may be busy but there's no way around it, just don't leave it 'til Christmas Eve as this will really stress you out. Any last minute perishables you've forgotten can now also be picked up.

6. set up the dining table

There's no such thing as being too organised. Our recommendation is to set up your dining table on the 22nd or 23rd. That way, if any surprise guests turn up with presents or to wish you well, you'll have a lovely festive place for you all to sit. Check out these various ways to decorate a dining room table if you're out of ideas.

7. last-minute wrapping

Ensure that you've got all your wrapping done now so you can avoid the Christmas Eve panic. Go through any lists you made earlier so you can have a thorough check that everyone will have their presents come Christmas day.

8. make a cooking timeline

If you are the lucky one who's cooking up Christmas dinner, get planning your chef timeline. You might be lucky enough to have helpers too so now is the time to start delegating tasks. Once you've made your plan of timing and tasks, you'll know if there are any ingredients you've missed out too!

9. get the flowers in

No Christmas at home is complete without a gorgeous floral arrangement. It will impress your guests and of course, fresh flowers make anyone feel relaxed and homely.

10. most importantly - relax!

There is nothing more important than actually enjoying your Christmas break! It's understandable that there is plenty to get done but at the end of the day, spending precious time with your loved ones is all that really matters.

So, now you've read the Lakeland Furniture checklist for Christmas, we'd love to hear your favourite ways to get prepared for the festive period and how you celebrate in your home!
