Why We Love Blue Tones for the Dining Room

Adding a touch of blue

Pantone's colour of the year may be Ultraviolet but we're going for a blue moon here at Lakeland Furniture. Blue is one of those colours that is always in fashion in some form or another. That's because there are so many shades and tones of blue! There's aquamarine, teal, sky, navy... the list goes on! We're big fans of blue and we wanted to show you just why we think you should consider adding blue to your dining room.

Why the dining room?

Well, first things first, the dining room is always a good room to update as it is often the easiest to decorate. Having a dining room out of bounds for a few days won't disrupt family life too much - especially if you have a breakfast bar or don't mind a TV dinner. And most likely, there won't be a whole load of furniture and pieces to move around. The dining chairs and table can be covered with a large cloth and you can decorate around them! Alternatively, you could go all out and update your furniture too.

So, what makes blue so great?

The colour blue is widely known for its calming and de-stressing properties. Rumour has it, that's why nurse's uniforms are usually blue - it helps to relax patients and make them feel more at ease. Psychologists say that blue makes us feel centred. So, the centre of the home (the dining room) is surely the ultimate location for the colour. Blue is also the colour associated with coolness. Perhaps that's why the Mr Men character 'Mr Cool' was blue! If you want to create a stylish and calming atmosphere for hosting dinner parties, blue is the ultimate colour for your dining room.

Firs things first, here are some of our favourite examples of incorporating blue into the dining area:
