How to restore synthetic rattan

Top grade synthetic furniture should not fade. As the dye used is dissolved all the way through each strand.

Lower grade furniture may be subjected to fading over time depending on its exposure to sunlight. The strong UV rays can fade the individual strands and the overall piece. Unfortunately, there is not many ways you can return the strands back to their original state. It is almost impossible to paint or dye synthetic furniture. As you are unable to sand down or buff the strands, to create a surface for the paint or varnish.

If you are able to paint the rattan furniture with specialised paint it will eventually peel. Even with paint specially designed for plastics.

If you are looking to minimise any fading in your rattan, you are best over storing the furniture out of strong sunlight. Also, you should use a reflective cover when not using the products. Finally, ensure you are rotating your furniture at least once a month, this will decrease the amount of noticeable fading.
