The Go To Guide for Eco Friendly Living

4th February 2020

There are hundreds of ways you can be more friendly to the environment. The focus on recycling has been huge in recent years, green energy plans have been developed to meet year targets and as climate change and global warming are becoming to most talked about topics, it’s time for change. And change that actually helps. The facts about climate change do not look good, as the evidence we have shows that due to human activity, global temperatures are rising at a greater level which isn’t sustainable to the environment to be able to survive. So, the question is, how can we make a difference and sustain the planet?

We have various green eco tips for sustainable living, and although they may seem like small things, small steps can make a huge difference.

Eco Friendly Living Tips – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Simplify – A simple first step towards being more eco-friendly. What we mean by this is, to only keep things in your life that you use on a regular basis. This essentially helps future purchase habits, because if you reduce what you own, you’ll naturally purchase less waste and create less waste in the future, which is easier on the planet. Check out this creative list to decluttering your home.

Reduce Purchases – Food shopping, clothes shopping, and any other form of shopping impacts the environment more than you think. Do you really need those expensive jeans that you don’t really need? Think of the production of the product, what further impacts there will be. Here is a smart way to deal with these decisions, simply use the 30 day rule. This is where you wait 30 days after you have first seen the product, and decide whether or not you still need it. It’s an effective technique, especially for impulse buying. Not only are you breaking bad habits, but you’re helping the environment at the same time.

Reusable Products – Replace disposable products with reusable products! This is a lot easier than many of us think. The coffee you grab from Starbucks each morning in a disposable cup, isn’t a necessity – grab a reusable travel cup. When you go shopping, reusable bags are your hero.

Bulk Purchases – Rather than buy products which are packages for single use only, buy in bulk instead. This reduces your trips to a supermarket, for example if you want to buy food in bulk, and it reduces packaging. There are various wholesalers that have bulk products, from cereals, meats, cleaning products and more.

Buy Used Products – There are many sites available online where you can buy used products. Not only does this impact the environment a little less, but it’s cheaper and much more convenient. Sites like the Facebook market place, eBay and local shops are ideal if you’re looking to buy used products.

Eco Friendly Furniture – There are various sustainable brands in the furniture market. As furniture is a main product piece all throughout our homes, we need to make sure we get it right, and ensure their impact isn’t too much on the environment. Many furniture brands are now making sure they use a recyclable and biodegradable resource, so they tread more lightly on the environment. If, however, you don’t have eco-friendly furniture, you can make it eco-friendly! When the time comes when you want to replace it, don’t throw it out – reusing furniture is a great chance to transform it into something you need, rather than leaving to go to waste in landfill.

Let’s take wooden bar stools for example, wood is a better material for the environment as it’s renewable and sustainable.

LED Bulbs – These are now your new best friends! They are 80% more efficient than the regular, traditional light bulbs. 95% of the energy in LEDs is converted into light, and 5% is wasted as heat.

Houseplants – Brighten your home with a bit of nature by investing in a few house plants. It’s time to turn some CO2 into O2.

Smart Thermostats – Smart thermostats better control your heating even when you’re no longer in the house. Great way to reduce energy bills and soften your impact on the environment.
