How Do I Know When It's Time for a New Mattress?

How do I know when it's time for a new mattress?

We've all heard the age-old statistic: a third of our lives is spent in bed. And when that much time is dedicated to one activity, we better make sure we get it right. Regardless of how beautiful your bed frame is or how comfortable your pyjamas are, you won't get a good night's sleep if your mattress isn't performing.  If you're thinking that it might be time for a new mattress, you're probably right! Here are the telltale signs that it's time to switch it up.

You'll sleep tight if your mattress is right

It's true. Your mattress plays a massive part in how well you sleep a night. So it's massively important to pay attention to how you feel when you get into and out of bed. Keep reading and answer honestly if any of the following points resonate with you. Chances are if at least one does then it's time to chuck out the old and bring in the new! And we understand how hard it can be to part from your mattress but ultimately, your health and well-being must always come first.
Food for thought: If you live until 75, you'll have spent 25 years in bed.

Answer these questions honestly

Do you feel tired no matter how early you go to bed? Now, we all have those days where we're constantly pressing snooze and hoping the day will just go away. However, if this is happening every day no matter how hard you try to combat it, there could be an underlying (literally!) reason. If you're making sure to exercise, eat healthily, drink plenty of water and get enough sleep but you're still tired...your mattress could be the problem. Are you getting back or shoulder pain? Unfortunately, back pain is massively common amongst adults in the UK. Check that your posture and chair position is right at work to rule out office-related problems. But if you've noticed it's always worse in the morning, it's almost definitely time for a new mattress that supports you properly. Do you get a better night's sleep away from home? Unless you're staying in some 5-star palace, it's pretty well-known that you should feel most comfortable in your own bed. If this isn't the case and you're sleeping better elsewhere, it's time to look at the causes. Waking up feeling refreshed in your mate's spare bedroom is a telltale sign that your own bed isn't up to scratch. Are you sneezing and itching more than usual? It's handy to know that mattresses are prime carriers of household allergens. Obviously, the longer you have a mattress the more these allergens build up. And the result? You'll be sniffling and sneezing more than usual without ever knowing the cause. This can go on for months, maybe even years, before people realise that they're actually allergic to their mattress.
