Should I cover Synthetic Rattan in Winter?

8th June 2017

You do not need to cover synthetic rattan furniture if it is top grade.

The high-quality polyethylene weave is mostly resistant to rain and frost. However, if you do want your furniture to have a longer life, we do recommend you use a cover in harsh months. Pushing your set together and buying a cover large enough for it all will prevent in blowing away in the wind. You just need to ensure the cover can be fastened down to the legs of the furniture.

Some companies, such as Tesco sell specialised covers for any rattan set. Some modular sets will fit together like a jigsaw, such as our Mijas set. Due to this it is easy to find a compatible cover.
We recommend when covering your garden set, to try and create a sent like shape with the cover. This can be done by placing a broom in a safe and sturdy position under the cover. This simple technique will help to drain excess water off the cover.

Lower Grade rattan furniture however, will need covering in winter. This is as the colour used us only applied to the outer layer of the weave. Whereas, the dye on top grade rattan is soaked through the polyethylene. The lower the grade of the material is also known for splitting and breaking when there is extreme cold
