Turn Your Kitchen into the Perfect Party Room

10th July 2018

The kitchen is the hub of the home

There's no denying it. Whenever your friend comes over for a cuppa, you'll catch up over the sound of the kettle boiling. And when you're teaching your children to bake their first cupcakes, you'll all gather in here. Sunday mornings, Friday evenings, weekday dinners: everything boils down to the importance of this room. It is the hub of the home and no family residence would be the same without it. Today, we want to talk about taking the comforting, homely kitchen and turning it into the perfect party room! After all, it's where everyone ends up at the end of the night. Right?

How to entertain in your kitchen

First things first, you'll need to consider the size of your kitchen and its current layout. If it's too small, perhaps open up some doors leading to other rooms to offer more space. With a bigger room, however, anything is possible. If you have patio doors leading outside from the kitchen, why not throw your parties in the summer where people can spill into the garden? Do you have a large dining table in your kitchen? Can it be moved to make way for more people? Now, once you've dealt with the bigger issues, it's time to think about these small but effective ways to create a better hosting environment.

1. Declutter and organise your draws and cupboards

If you're lucky enough to have great storage space, USE IT! Take advantage of your draws and cupboards as much as you can. This way, you'll be able to clear up any counter space for guests to help themselves to snacks and wine. The more surface space, the better - especially when it comes to parties.

2. Choose bar stools over dining chairs

Naturally, you may have a collection of dining chairs in your kitchen. However, we recommend opting for bar stools over lower seating so everyone feels like they're on the same level! Some people will opt to stand but everyone can socialise if people are sat higher up on bar stools. If you're looking for some bar stools to add to your home, check out our fantastic range here.

3. Give existing spaces new life

If you get creative, you can really impress your guests and add extra functionality to your kitchen. For example, why not turn your sink into a DIY ice bucket? Clean it out properly and fill with ice. You can then place bottles of beer and wine inside. Again, this will save you some space on your counters. You could even turn your breakfast bar into the buffet zone - after all, it's a central part of the kitchen that everyone will be drawn to.

4. Turn up the music with a Bluetooth speaker

Invest in a Bluetooth-powered speaker for your kitchen parties. Everyone can join in by adding their music to the playlist straight from their phones. However, this might get a little annoying if you've got mates with terrible music taste! The benefit to these portable speaks, though, is that they're inexpensive and can be moved to another room once the party is over.

5. Put out bin bags for rubbish

If you tie bin bags to the door handles in your kitchen, people should follow by example and use them correctly. Trust us, there's nothing worse than waking up the next day and seeing rubbish strewn across your precious kitchen! To keep yourself feeling organised, have separate bags for recycling and food.

6. Prepare for the mess early on

This kind of leads on from our last point but it'll definitely help you to feel at ease come the morning after. Make sure to empty your dishwasher way before your party starts. That way, all the glassware and dishes can go straight into the dishwasher. It'll be much easier on your hangover.
