Buying guide: choosing between our garden umbrellas and parasols

You know that we love to make sure you're always in the know here at Lakeland Furniture. That's why we work hard on the 'how-to' guides and inspiration posts on our blog page. It's always important to us that our customers and loyal visitors can get everything they need in one place! So, we thought we'd start preparing both you and ourselves for the next season hot on our heels: spring. Once spring comes around, it'll be time to start soaking up the sun and enjoying the garden. What better way to do this than with an exciting new set of garden furniture? And of course, with your new furniture, you're going to need a garden parasol or umbrella for those particularly scorching days!

We're proud of the high-quality furniture for both home and garden that we stock on our website. We don't stop just at furniture either - accessories are just as important.

Whether you're a regular BBQ-hoster or just enjoy the odd al fresco meal, a solid outdoor umbrella will always come in handy. Here at Lakeland Furniture, something from our gorgeous range of parasols and garden umbrellas is sure to take your fancy.

How do I pick a garden umbrella?

Taking into consideration the following factors - size, colour and style - you'll be able to narrow down exactly what it is that you're looking for. Bear these things in mind when reading this post and browsing our range.

choosing a size

In terms of size, there are two measurements to choose from in our range: 2 meters and 3 meters. The measurement refers to the diameter of the parasol or umbrella as the height remains the same across our range. All of our garden umbrellas and parasols are 2m high - this is a standard height for these particular products. Of course, the diameter differs across the different styles which we'll discuss next.

choosing a style

The first two styles we're going to talk about are the Henley and Cambridge styles. They're pretty similar but as we mentioned before, they differ in size. The Henley has a 3m diameter and the Cambridge has a 2m diameter. So obviously, if you are struggling with space then we'd recommend the Cambridge.

Why are they similar? Well, it's all to do with the mechanisms involved. The Henley and Cambridge garden umbrellas both feature a crank and tilt mechanism. This means that they can be adjusted throughout the day as the sun changes position - you won't need to move the umbrella. Simply push the button on the pole to release the tilt lever. Easy!

Oxford parasol in grey

The third style we have is the Oxford parasol. This measures at 3 x 2m and is the ideal solution to your al fresco afternoon. It's a rectangle parasol which gives maximum coverage from the sun's strong rays.

Last but certainly not least, we offer the Norfolk 'hanging banana' umbrella. This particular product boasts a 3m diameter parasol. Why do we love this one so much? Well, it literally 'hangs' away from its pole so that it offers the biggest possible area of shade. The Norfolk is perfect for family get-togethers and entertaining friends.

Choosing a colour

Whilst the colour of your new umbrella isn't going to necessarily be chosen with practical reasons in mind, it's always important to consider what you really want. Have you already got garden furniture? What will your new umbrella need to match? Failing that, perhaps you'll want to take your current interior design to the outdoors. A fan of cream or brown? We offer our garden umbrellas in these neutral shades as well as brighter colours like red, blue and green. Green is often a popular choice for gardens but maybe you'd prefer to do something a little differently! After all, it's completely up to you as style and design are so subjective.

We wish to buy a large parasol, are there any which block out the harmful sun rays?
