What Makes a Great Home Office Chair?

The perfect home office chair is only a blog post away...

Our goal is always to keep your informed and inspired with our blog and this time it's no different. By the end of this, we're hoping you'll be ready to create or alter your home office to make it the perfect workspace. For those of us lucky (or arguably unlucky) enough to be able to work at home, it's so important to get the room just right. There are several factors you need to consider when putting together your office - we'll be discussing how to achieve each one regardless of budget or space.

Comfort

Of course, comfort has to come first. It might be a different story if we were looking at an office for a public workspace but when it comes to domestic purposes, we want to keep it comfortable! There's no point in creating the perfect home workspace if it isn't going to flow nicely into the rest of your home. And unless your home is rigid, cold and uncomfortable... it's likely you'll appreciate something a little on the cosier side. However, that doesn't mean you should compromise on functionality. It's all about getting a good balance. The best way to create comfort in the office is to invest in a good chair. Of course, the most ideal chairs for the office are going to be ergonomic but this might not always be the most stylish option. We offer a range of ergonomic office chairs which are also aesthetically pleasing - it's the best of both worlds. Don't forget to make sure you have a working radiator in your office and it's not covered by any furniture. Keeping warm, especially in colder months, is very important when you're going to be working for long periods of time. By the same token, it might be worth purchasing a fan for the hot summer months to make office work more bearable!

Style

As we mentioned earlier, the perfect option for a good office chair is to get one that is both ergonomic and stylish. Whilst comfort is important for long working hours, it's also crucial for you to enjoy being in your workspace. If you take pride in your home's interior design, why stop at the office? The best way to make your office is stylish, in our opinion, is to keep things as neutral as possible. White walls, light wooden furniture and details kept to a minimum will make sure the room is timeless and classy. Of course, not everyone can afford a Pinterest-worthy Mac computer but that doesn't mean you have to skimp on style. The following things can be achieved on a small budget and make a real difference to how your office looks. A potted plant on your desk keeps up with current trends and also brings a bit of nature indoors. Using floating shelves for trinkets avoids clutter on your desk and adds extra dimension. Stick to a strict colour scheme so the room looks well thought out - neutrals are always good but if you're going for a bold colour, avoid plastering it everywhere just for the sake of it! Personality

If you opt for a neutral colour scheme, it'll be much easier to change up the details when you go through different phases. We all do it! Putting part of your personality into your house is what makes it a home and this is even more important in your workspace. Working can be dull at times but at least the space you're in doesn't have to be. A pin-board or mesh wire board can be a great way to do this; you can cover them in photos, posters and magazine cut-outs like a giant collage! Perhaps you'd rather go down the more understated route - we recommend choosing a nice cover for your laptop and getting nicely designed drinks mats. These subtle touches will give your office some more personality without going overboard. Even draping fairy lights (cliché, we know) around the furniture or adding in a rug can really make a space feel more intimate.

Practical and functional

Whilst injecting your personality and style into an office is exciting, and comfort is important for your sanity, it's also crucial not to forget about the actual function of the room. At the end of the day, you're creating this home office so that you can work efficiently! Ensure that you have bought the correct furniture for the way you work. For example, if everything you do is online then a filing cabinet may go to waste. By the same token, there's no point fitting in a large armchair to look cosy when you need a cabinet for extra storage space. Think functional first and then make it work for the style you have in mind. Don't forget too measure up properly when you're buying your desk and chair - always add on some extra space for movement when you're planning where to place your office chair. It's best to err on the side of caution!
