When were Eames Chairs made?

The first Eames chair, designed by Charles Eames in 1948, was originally made from stamped steel—but due to the high cost of adding a neoprene coating for warmth, production shifted to Zenaloy, a plastic resin reinforced with fiberglass. Early versions came in muted tones like greige, elephant hide grey, and parchment, with designer Ray Eames later introducing brighter shades like seafoam green, yellow, and red. Today, the chairs are available in 14 colors.

A major selling point of the Eames molded chair is its adaptability—available with or without arms and compatible with various bases. Originally designed for a competition (which it didn’t win), the chair has since become an icon of modern design. Fiberglass production stopped in 1989 for environmental reasons but returned in 2013 using a new recyclable version. In the meantime, production continued using recyclable polypropylene.

Charles and Ray Eames also created the Tandem Sling Seating still used in airports today. Known for being simple, classic, and gorgeous, Eames chairs are now a favorite in homes everywhere. They are a popular choice when alternated with a coloured chair. The chair is delivered ready for self-assembly, and comes with easy to read instructions but is super easy to assemble. Victoria Ghost Style Clear Chair

 This is very much a statement chair and would be very noticeable wherever you choose to place it. This chair creates a feeling of space when pushed under a table in a small kitchen, and looks super stylish when placed with a glass topped table.
