Garden Furniture Ideas for 2019

Garden furniture should offer functionality, durability and comfort. Something further to take into consideration is the ever-changing British weather, so garden furniture that can withstand the elements and a shower or two is a must! Interior furniture trends often impact on outdoor furniture ideas, and “outdoor homing” a continuation of the outdoor living trend bringing the inside, outside - all about making the outside as comfortable and functional as the inside, introducing outdoor fabrics and interior styling to the outdoor space, creating a space which can be used all day.

How we use our patio / outdoor space will dictate the choice of garden furniture. If space is at a premium, then lightweight, foldable and easy to store furniture could be the answer. We often require furniture that functions in a number of different ways from dining and entertaining whether it be for large groups of friends, or a family BBQ, or to test out some al fresco recipes for a small circle of friends, or to good old fashioned lazing in the sun. Today’s choices range from Garden Furniture Sets, be it in the popular choice of Resin Rattan Sets, which are modern and functional and with the addition of colourful accessories can create a very individual style, or perhaps just table and chairs would suit your space, perhaps a relaxing sofa can be added at a later date!

There is also a Retro trend for both inside and outside our homes enabling the use of all sorts of different styles mixed together. More retro style pieces are expected to be ‘the trend’ this summer, with some innovative use of colour. Bistro style table and chairs, work well in a small confined area or balcony space and can still create your own little relaxation area. Whichever style will suit your outdoor space, there is fun to be had in creating and designing it.

RATTAN FURNITURE

Rattan Furniture is a very popular choice for garden furniture. Synthetic Rattan is stylish and affordable, it is ideal to withstand our English weather being water resistant UV protected and easy to maintain.

Adding rattan garden furniture to your patio / outdoor space gives an immediate ‘vacation’ flair, whilst creating a contemporary look it offers luxury and comfort, practical to use, making the most of your garden all year round. Whether you are looking to revitalise your conservatory or create a special outdoor area, rattan furniture will suit perfectly. Depending on how you wish your patio/ outdoor space to work for you, whether it be for entertaining large groups of family and friends, or for a quiet evening meal after work, a quiet reading area or sunbathing area for true relaxation, the space and layout you need and your budget will help you decide on the style and size of furniture you require. It is preferable to stand your rattan set on a hard surface, as against on a grass surface as the moisture from the grass could cause damage to your furniture.

Rattan furniture is very versatile and comes in all shapes and sizes to enable you to choose which would work for you. There are Sofa sets, Corner sofa sets, Rattan dining sets, Bistro / Balcony sets. For the smaller area perhaps a dining table with 4 chairs, or a three seater sofa.A Dining set with a corner sofa that could double up its purpose. Rattan sets can always be added to at a later date if you feel you need extra seating etc. Whichever you decide is right for you ‘ENJOY’ planning your outdoor area.

SUN LOUNGERS

There are many choices of materials, accessories and fabrics which go into making a desirable sun lounger. Choose from a sumptuous thick cushion and perhaps an adjustable backrest so that you can sit upright to read a book, or to lie down for an afternoon nap. If you like to have company whilst relaxing rattan double loungers are a popular choice to relax by your pool or on your patio, also with thick foam cushions for added comfort. You don’t have to pack a suitcase or go on a long journey, your dream holiday awaits in your own private garden, all it takes is a sumptuous sun lounger with deep cushions and you can start to relax whenever you wish to.

All that is needed is some good weather, and maybe a ‘cocktail’ to create that holiday feeling. Some loungers are light and portable, some with wheels at the back of them to enable you to move it to a sunny area when the sun moves, or when the gardening is done and you can sit and admire your work.

DECK LIGHTING

Making the most of your Patio / Outdoor Area is helped by the addition of Lighting, to enable you to enjoy the evenings outdoors, and create that magical atmosphere.

If you have steps leading to your patio then deck stair lights are a fantastic idea giving a subtle light and making the steps safer to negotiate. Hanging string lights around your patio/garden create a “fairy glen” atmosphere, don’t just use them for Christmas make use of them all year round, adding them in a variety of colours, or just white or ivory depending on the atmosphere you wish to create. Add lighting to your cooking / BBQ area to help everyone see what they are doing and making a safer space to work in. If there is overhead protection on your patio, recessed deck lights works very well as they are protected from the elements and won’t need continuous cleaning.

Spotlights can also be used to light up a particular area when needed, also lighting incorporated into the floor space to light up corners, near steps, and seating making a perfect decking lighting combination. For a veranda space which has supporting posts, deck post cap lights are a welcome addition, available in LED or Solar powered varieties. Lighting can also be incorporated under the rails, to create a soft warm glow. A Pergola is another garden area which benefits greatly from outdoor lighting creating a wonderfully magical relaxing area, by hanging lights from the structure, and of course for a quick inexpensive way to bring lights to your outdoor space Lanterns with battery operated or solar bulbs, or candles are a great addition enabling you to place them where they are most needed. GARDEN PRIVACY IDEAS

If your garden is overlooked by neighbours gardens or perhaps surrounded by buildings, you could create this environment with some clever screening techniques.

Longing to relax and unwind in your own ‘secluded’ garden after a long week at work. Privacy screening is useful to separate your property from your neighbours but also to divide different areas of your garden. This is very effective around patios and outdoor dining areas and works well to define different zones in smaller outdoor spaces. Walls and fences are the most common partition methods but sometimes need planning permission before erecting. The use of climbing plants adding a splash of colour or a row of bamboo in large planters is an excellent compromise. Building a sense of serenity and security with trees, hedging or bamboo plants creates a secluded tranquil atmosphere, also making great sound barriers offering your garden a rustic feel.

Metal screening, Parasoleil Panels are ‘on trend’ this summer and instant and inexpensive way of enclosing your outdoor space. These metal screens create a feeling of solitude but also act as an unusual ‘stand alone’ feature. Decorative patterns are laser cut into the steel for visual interest, allowing natural light to filter through. These panels are built to last and choosing a copper or rust coloured partition gives an earthy natural appeal. Wooden screening, Bamboo screens and Trellis panels make brilliant versatile dividers.

Plain trellis partitioning works well in a small garden but still letting light through to give an open feel, and can be dressed with creeping plants and vines, or create a living wall, hang wind chimes, bird boxes and insect hotels from your trellis to attract local wildlife - something which children would love to help create. PVC Balcony / Garden Screening is suitable if you live in a flat or apartment and wish to make your balcony area more private. They are made from HDPE Polythylene which is resistant to all types of weather.

Willow garden screening made from natural willow is strong durable and will look good in any garden, as it is a natural fibre it is also particularly eco-friendly. The choices of garden screening are numerous and depend largely on the type of area you wish to create, whether that be traditional or ultra modern and depending on the style of your interior designs. But hours of fun can be had in creating your own ‘Private Paradise’.
