Interior Design Trends: What's Looking Hot for 2018?

27th November 2017

How quickly has 2017 gone?! I know, we can't believe it either. But the end of the year draws closer every day and it's time to start thinking about the new year. What will you wear to the NYE bash? What are your resolutions going to be? And how will you keep up with the new trends? Well, if it's interior design trends you're looking for - this is the place to be.

Top 4 Trends for 2018

There's no better time to overhaul your home's decor than at the start of a new year. You can make the most of January sales by picking up key pieces that will really set a room off. A new interior = a new start, right? So, in terms of trends, what are we likely to see in the new year? Well, we're about to run you through it. We've picked four of our favourite 2018 trends for you to feast your eyes on. Check them out:

tonal reds

Terra-cotta, deep wine, burnt orange - if it's got a slight hint of red, it's good to go. The key to this trend is not to stick to one particular shade but to mix a number of colours together. Tonal reds are going to be key for 2018, especially in the living area and dining room for a real cosy and luxurious feel. Add in brighter shades of coral and tangerine to soften the look and keep it fresh for the summer months.

The beauty of this trend is how easy it is to achieve. You don't have to completely transform your home. Adding in little details here and there will make all the difference, especially if you already have a neutral colour scheme that the reds can complement.

mixed metals

For the past few years, copper and rose gold metals have truly ruled the interior design trends. It has almost been like an exclusive gang in high school - if you didn't have copper kitchen accessories, were you even cool? Well, copper isn't the only cool kid in town anymore. Don't get rid of your old items - they're still going to be on trend - but just add more variations. A collection of different metal accessories is going to be way cooler than a matching set. Think silver mixed with tin, gold mixed with brass.

This trend can seep into any part of your home quite easily - from the kitchen and bathroom to the hallway and bedroom. Metal chairs, photo frames, figurines and mixed cutlery are all great ways to nail this trend. Go mad for metallics!

recycling and 'cosy clutter'

Next year, minimalism isn't going to be the talk of the town. Whilst decluttering is beneficial and entirely therapeutic, it's also just as rewarding to keep hold of sentimental items that can be used to enhance your home's decor. Upcycling is the way to go for 2018. Turn your old jam jars into stationery holders and gather all your holiday souvenirs to display on floating shelves. It's all about the shabby chic look and deconstructing previously 'perfect' interiors.

The best thing about this trend is it costs very little to inject into your home and it's great for the environment.

feeling blue

It's supposed to be representative of 'calm' and 'health', which is why many doctors and nurses wear uniforms in this colour. Hopefully, blue being in fashion next year will bring both calmness and health into our lives! Various shades of the colour are acceptable with teal and azure tones set to be the favourites. Perhaps it's time for the unicorn obsession to be taken over by mystical mermaids? Either way, adding a touch of blue to otherwise plain and neutral interiors will keep your home bang on trend.

The great thing about the colour blue is all the connotations that come with it. If you've been watching Blue Planet like us, you'll have gained a deeper appreciation for the ocean. Take full advantage of this craze by getting yourself a tank and some fishy friends to really embody the 'deep blue' trend.
