How do I save my floors from scratches when using a barstool?

Having barstools is somewhat a simple pleasure in life. And we all know that those are the best joys! Somewhere to sit over coffee and brunch, somewhere to read the morning newspaper. Then when night comes, your friends chatter and laugh over a drink of their choice whilst swivelling on your bar stools. Life is simply better... but that doesn't mean there aren't problems. Unfortunately, you may find that your bar stool has a tendency to scratch your lovely floors! That is if you haven't protected them properly. Here's what to do to prevent this from happening! Keep reading to discover how to save your floors from scratches when using a barstool.

Methods to protect your floor

Usually, our how-to guides would follow the pattern of 'what you need' and 'the method'. However, this guide is very much centred around a couple of different solutions that, well, don't need you to have much in stock. If you want to avoid scratches when using a barstool, here are a few things you can try:

  • Place your bar stools over a rug or doormat - this is particularly useful if your breakfast bar is by a backdoor that would naturally have a rug near it anyway.
  • Try purchasing some felt pads to stick onto the bottom of your bar stool. You can get fairly cheap pads that are adhesive and so are really easy to attach. However, depending on your floor, bar stool and daily movement, you may find these fall off a lot.
  • For a firmer stick, you can find sliders or felt pads that can be nailed onto the bottom of your bar stool. However, this would obviously take more work. If it's worth it to you, then it might be a good consideration.
  • Alternatively, you might wish to get some bar stools that come with floor protectors already installed! Yes, this is possible. Most of our bar stools come with floor protectors as standard. Maybe it's worth double-checking this next time you invest in a set.

What should you choose?

So, there are your options. Of course, simply placing a rug underneath your stools is the easiest option but may not look as neat as you'd like. Felt pads are a great option if you don't move your bar stools around too much! However, if you've got kids or a hectic household then you may find that they fall off regularly. Nail-on pads are obviously the next step-up but it depends how DIY-savvy you are. And the final option, buying bar stools with ready-made protectors seems to be the best answer but it's costly. We recommend this only if you're already thinking of buying a new set!
