How to weatherproof your Garden Furniture for UK weather

If you live in the UK, you know our weather can be unpredictable and temperamental. Due to this, you would want your furniture to be protected whatever the weather. We would recommend buying a high grade rattan waterproof cover. If you would not like to purchase a cover, there are 3 steps you can take to weatherproof garden furniture.

1. Light Sand Down your rattan with a fine sandpaper, this will give the varnish a better surface to adhere to.
2. Give it 3 coats of clear yacht varnish
3. Allow is to thoroughly dry before use.

Weatherproof Rattan Bistro Set

Rattan Garden Bistro sets are different in that you have to ensure both the table and chairs are protected. You can purchase a cover for both the Rattan Garden table and the Rattan chairs. Alternatively you can buy a larger cover and cover all the parts together.

Waterproof Rattan Cushions

One of the main questions we get asked at Lakeland Furniture is, Can I leave out the cushions on my synthetic rattan furniture when it rains? Unfortunately there is no yes or no answer. The Rattan Garden Furniture can be left out in a shower and the water droplets just shaken off afterwards. However, they are not completely waterproof and therefore must be brought indoors or stored correctly during heavy rain or snow.

We would recommend storing your rattan garden furniture indoors; this way it is less likely to become damp and grow mould. If youdo not have space to sotre these indoors, the next best thing would be to store within a garden shed or a waterproof garden storage box.
